Remember Gershwin ? I Got Rhythm, Fascinating Rhythm, Rhapsody in Blue, an American in Paris and the unforgettable opera, Porgy and Bess? This and other works form a dense, eclectic and timeless oeuvre, known by everyone and adapted by generations of musicians the world over. Who has never hummed the unforgettable Summer Time? The Gershwin brothers, George the musician, Ira the writer of the lyrics are right there when jazz and classics form a dialogue. Considered by jazz fans as a “classic” greatly influenced by the blues and by classic amateurs as a composer of symphonic jazz, George Gershwin is situated where the two meet. So what is more logical that this 4th jazz and classic concert should celebrate this exceptional composer?

Jay Gottlieb is an exceptional composer as well as an outstanding musician. New York born Jay has won an amazing number of prizes and other awards throughout the world. He studied under Nadia Boulanger and worked, amongst others, with composers such as Olivier Messiaen, Pierre Boulez and Maurice Ohama. Firmly established as the specialist of contemporary American music, he has been appointed by his government as the official pianist to represent his country throughout the world. With an enthousiastic and easy-going manner he will be at Serres on May 1st for a concert that will not be easily forgotten.
